    Disco 1 window switch panel

Just wondering if anyone has heard of ....or made a replacement switch panel. It seems that the original is pretty crappy and it is hard to even find a good one in a wreck.

Is yours broken (physically) or are the switches just not working? When I got my D1 only one of the three electric windows would work from the centre console but it is actually relatively easy to take the panel out, strip down all of the switches (one at a time) and clean them with contact cleaner before putting them back in. Hey Presto - four working switches.

    Disco 1 window switch panel

Thanks. My switches are fine but the panel that they are mounted is cracked...when I spoke to the guys at British Offroad they told me that this is a common issue and it can be hard to find a good one. The panel is the same in both the disco 1 and 2. I am one to rather replace with another one that will crack in time but make it better so I don't have to worry about it again

A piece of aluminium will make a good replacement panel.

you can find the centre surround for the switch panel fairly easily. there are two parts to it. the front switch frame and a rear mounting panel. used to be cheap but are becoming more and more expensive. they usually last long.

the part that is more likely to break is the actual centre tunnell console where these panels screw onto (tabs). ive searched far and wide for these, which are no longer made. i managed to track a few brand new ones which are about 250 euro. before i found these i had tracked one down to a german supplier which had it listed as the manual centre console but upon receving it (even though the box said manual) it was for an auto.

i have written many emails some abusive to the guy since and he keeps blaming landrover for sending him the wrong part and being slow to reply. i sent copy of everything to landrover and they said they no longer use the guy as a supplier.

basically i gave up and what i will do is cut the manual gearbox cutout from my old one and modify the new one so that i can fit it to mine. i spoke to a plastic welding specialist. he said can be done easily.

but like i said, there are a few manual ones left. and a few auto. they all have holes either side for the electric seat switches as they are all later d1 consoles. they still fit though. exactly the same even though different part number.

as stated above if its only the switch panel, you can also make one up quite easily. or, if its the centre console which is what you are referring to, there is a video on youtube which shows you a fix (using aluminium L bar) to be able to mount your switch panel to the centre console when you are missing a few tabs. mine was too broken to apply this fix though.
