Sounds like they are a progressive rate spring , i have never seen tapers in any of the springs i have swapped in or out of a landy.

Guys.....
I spent last weekend up @ Landcruiser Mountain Park before it closes and it was the 1st time I've really tested out my Disco on some more challenging tracks that req'd some good travel. Anyhow, I was quite surprised at how well it did being opened diff & all, but it does have aftermarket Suspension which was on the car when I bought it....Anyhow, when I got home & started cleaning the Disco, I noticed that the Rear Coil had dislodged and the Rubber/Metal Top insert plate had been dislodged and was bent up and had been rubbing against the tyre. I reckon I was very fortunate that I got home w/o blowing the tyre.
Now for the Question for those in the know:
When I removed the Coil, I noticed the Thickness of the coil spring varied from the bottom coils to the top coils. There was a definite difference in spring thickness between the bottom and top of the coil - Is this a LR Disco thing as I've never come across this on other 4WD's that I've owned??
Is this the reason why these Disco's are so comfy to ride in ??
Sorry if this is common knowledge as I'm still new to LR's.....
BTW: What's the best way from preventing the Coils from dislodging in the future ?? (I know there is dis-location Cones, but is there any other ways?)

There's two ways of making a variable rate spring, taper grind the wire to change the diameter or vary the pitch between winds, or utilise both.
AFAIK only King's make taper ground variable rate coils ?
The kings i had werent tapered just the spacing of thr coils was tighter towards the top.

Hose clamps are the quick, dirty fix to keep the coils in but they break.
It's all I've used for years, just keep half a dozen in the car for when they do eventually let go.
A more permanent and better method is a retaining plate that bolts into the top retainer, similar to what's used on the base coil.
