    Transfer Case help....

I am a 1985 County owner and also a 1995 Disco owner as of yesterday!
Grabbed a cheap one for fishing
Bloke said there was some issue with the TC...said it would only work in Hi range.....Drove it home with no issues...actually really happy with how it went....sounds as good as my V8 County!
Played around with the TC selector like a fool!!...And now I think she is completely stuck in N. The selector moves freely...maybe a little to freely!
Tried with the auto in N and foot on brake with engine running...still cant get the TC to go into H or L. So of course the car isnt moving at all.
Did some googlng last night and I suspect the TC linkage would be the first place to start....Is it easier to check that from under or thru the console??
Secondly, if I get underneath I see 2 bar things...is the Hi/low selector the largest of the 2?? If I move that is Hi up or down??
    Hope that makes sense TIA

Okay so I am sort of working this out
Got underneath...the long bar is the difflock!
Found the linkage for the Hi/low selector. Pushed it backward with a long screwdriver and it clicked into something ??Hi or low I am not sure!
Car wont move after I did that....But, I now can engage the difflock in hi or low and get the thing to go forward and backwards!! Its a start!!!
I still cant get it to engage in unlocked Hi or low range...?????Any one have any help??
When pushing the linkage backwards, is it supposed to be hi or low??

    Help!!!!!
So with the TC in what should be Hi range, the front shaft is still easy to spin by hand....when I then click it into difflock Hi, I cant spin the shaft!
    Help!! Buggered TC???? or Diff???
Managed to take off in reverse (Auto box) and get her to roll slowly down the driveway...chucked her into neutral and was able to then get her into unlocked Hi...able to drive forward, but not reverse !!

So are you saying that you can spin the front shaft with the wheels on the ground?

Yep...I can and I am thinking thats not supposed to happen
What I have so far is this (to summarize my efforts at diagnosis this morning!):
    1. The car wont move when the TC is in Hi or low from when its parked.
    2. I can move it with TC difflock engaged in either hi or low locked.
    3. I can get it into Hi unlocked when doing a slow roll in neutral.
    4. Can then drive forward in Hi range unlocked but,
    5. Cant reverse in Hi range unlocked!
    Strange!!!

It hasnt had free wheeling hubs fitted, just a thought as to why the front tail shaft turns.

No it hasnt thanks Dave...But you made me walk over and check
I am wondering if it could be front diff or CV joint or a half shaft rather than a TC issue???

It does seem to match the symptons of a broken cv / half shaft.

Okay...so if it is a half shaft, how do I figure out which one??
Also, why doesnt she reverse in Hi range (unlocked) but will go forward...but reverses okay with difflock engaged??
