Thanks, that mod looks good, but it is lot to do if it turns out not to be the problem.
I have a spare lucas module perhaps i will swap it out with that and see if the symptoms persist? If they dont then i will just upgrade to Bosch.
How would the ignition module cause my surging? Doesn't it just control the spark? My engine runs smooth as, not missing or anything.
    Thanks

So i took the disco out for another short run and i cant make it do the surges!
I think it might happen when it is warmed up a fair bit perhaps?
Somedays the surges are a real pain but it ran smooth as today.

Interestingly the disco has been sitting unused in the shed for a few days - which makes the idea of rear main seal leakage slipping the clutch a bit of a worry... Would the smell of clutch in this situation be unmissable?

I guess it will have to wait until i take it for another longer trip and take note of what the revs are doing when the surges are happening. Then i may swap out the ignition control module if needed.

I agree with you there man. Quite a lot to do.
I had a "problem" with my car which turned out to be a bad wire.
I went the whole ignition module change and no difference.
Quite a lot of wasted time if infact its not the problem.

A mate of mine (tojo owner) asked me recently.
Did all the ignition change make any difference to the performance of the car.
To which i had to answer NO.
    Not one bit.
A stronger spark? Sure is. But does it run any better than the lucas setup i had originally? Not that i can tell.

You say your engine runs smoothly so its likely not to be the ignition mate.
I would try resist doing this mod at this point. Not saying its a bad mod, not at all. If your module or even coil goes i would recommend bee uteys ignition upgrade as parts are cheaper. But only if you have an issue that requires it IMHO.
