Fuel sedimentor"
undo the top bolt, pull it apart and clean it all out, while its off , pull the lines of the fuel filter and blow them back with compressed air to clean them out.
Checking the timing"
take the tensioner assembly off of the timing cover, set TDC #4 rocking check the alignment of the crank locking groove in the bellhousing drain and if thats good then the timing pin should slide into the slot in the pump and housing
checking the pushrods'
check the valve adjustment, then when you have it set grab the pushrod, rotats it in place and recheck, much more than a 2 thou change means the rod is damaged you can also look down the hole the rod sits in to and look at it as you turn it you'll see any significant bend
thanks mate appreciate your help. still have a carton of beer here for you. had it in back of my nissan when you were going to come have a look at my disco and then forgot to bring it fishing. next time youre in perth let me know. ill drop it off at your doorstep. well not the same carton obviously, ill drink this one and get you a fresh one.
dont forget to check the flow from the lift pump, if its admitting air into the fuel you'll get similar symptoms.
By taking fuel line off lift pump and pumping it, watching flow? Think i read one your previous posts where you explain this, I'll go back and have a look
you may also need to do it with the engine running, the easy way of doing it is to remove the return line from the IP and flow it into a bottle, if its coming out areated youve got problems and this may be the cause of your ticking noise
Yea spoke to him. One of the ones that requires spark plug leads.
getting it running smoothly through the entire rev range, then worry about the tacho.
this is from cabin. that thumping sound is much more noticeable on the video. in real life doesnt sound anywhere near that bad. but idles ok. not sure if timing would be out and run like this. i will still check for piece of mind. going to do the fuel stuff first though.
when i get new tensioner next week ill take off both belts and look at timing.
