    the random mad scientist idea

hey guys. first post here because i am trawling websites talking to others about a funny (crazy) idea to 2jz my disco. and if it goes well to buy a really good rolling shell and swap it over to the better unit.

i currently have a series 1 disco with a reasonable powered v8 LPG/petrol (runs alright. but think it lacks some noise .it seems to be over heating ((i will be swapping thermostats and water pumps on it soon to keep it going))) but i also currently have a N/A 2jz from a lexus sitting around the house. both auto, tempted to drop it in with a pair of snails and make it dance.

bodies pretty hammered. rust, dents, scratches. all from previous owner/s but it was cheap.

it HAS been done before. i found a selling page on facebook from lala land (somewhere in the middle east but all the adverts details are in their native language) that had a deluxe model sporting a wild looking 2jz. but theres barely any info anywhere. also automatic.

has anyone been anywhere near someone who was mad enough to consider this? talking to my previous 4by club too who has a mechanic whos done 2j swaps but they were on toyota surfs. not discoveries.

heres a translated page from a thai site that i found. and it has the 2j i have in it

    Go for it!
If you are going 2jz then seriously consider gte for the extra torque. A 1uzfe would be an easier fit with a couple a snails
    Good luck.
    Cheers, BDave.

A Landrover disco 1 and a Landrover series 1 are not even remotely related other than they are both Landrover. You might get a wider response by posting in the Disco 1 section. Maybe a mod can move it for you.

I had a good chuckle at the translations.

A 2JZ would be amazing in a disco. Would love to see it.

Will look forward to following the build.
Don't know about the mad scientist bit. Have you considered a Cummins 6cyl 5.9 turbo diesel?

firstly sorry about the wrong forum section. as stated . new guy and i didnt realise there was an actual disco area before i posted. also late night and was quite drunk. so thanks for that.

secondly it is only a 2jz GE. yes its not the good engine thatll do 700+ without bottem end mods (oil squirters and the GTE pistons) but its the same crank and rods and its basically a free engine and transmission with wiring and computer. beggers cant be choosers when your running a budget of effectively 0. im hoping l can gather some cash when i get rolling to do what i need but for now itll probably be put on the backburner till
i sort out some cashflow issues and other bits and pieces. but hopefully next year ill have at least started this swap. but first ill need an electrical pinout for both a 1997 land rover discovery and a 1998 toyota lexus gs300. anyone know where to find them thats not gonna charge you a fortune?

ps i said disco 1 but i am not sold on that. as its 1997. ill be running numbers to see weather its been re bodied or re powered. as it has the 3.9 but the wheels are definitely first get (the huge wheel nut spacings/nuts

but ill be treating it as gen 1 till otherwise.

Well fun things yesterday. Found out the godawful rattling in the car above 85. Pretty much disintegrated Uni joint on the front shaft. Thankfully. It is not the front output bearing on the t/case but I am praying it has not done irreparable damage to the front shaft . I also need to do a rear axle seal. More money I gotta splash before I can get to buying conversion parts.

On other things I gotta figure out how to either keep the transfer case and hand brake or get a different seperate t/case and adapt the hand brakes or find myself like a hydraulic hand brake attachment for the rear axle only

Anyone with a busted up old discovery with a dead auto box their Thinking of dumping on the scrap heap In Perth, WA? Currently can't afford to pay for a project body but really could use one to set my template swap.

For anything you want to source for the project, pop up an ad in the "wanted" section in "Markets".
