    Door handle dramas

Hi all. Have a 1997 Discovery ES. I replaced all four exterior door handles with the brushed aluminium ones off a RRC Vogue SE. They all work fine. So...having installed them the rears work perfectly. The fronts work perfectly, open close, lock, unlock. Until I lock them with the remote. Then they wont open from inside or outside and you have to remove the exterior door handle to open it manually. The first time I discovered this was a PITA as the doorskins were already refitted. So as this was a simple swap out of door handles same for same, Im going nuts figuring it out. Tried putting old handles back in....same thing. They work fine when I lock/unlock wth the key but as soon as the central locking is used both front doors refuse to open. The Central locking has always been fine and all I removed was the door handles....What am I doing wrong?? Any help appreciated .

No idea....but I HATE the door handles on the D1....stupid engineering.

So you tested the remote with windows down etc..... after key tests?

If the key test works....maybe there is a problem with the FOB?

    things to check
the links to the electric actuators have gotten sloppy,
the links are out of adjustment
theres an earth fault the to central locking module thats preventing the acutators from getting full power to actuate over center
the over center springs in the locks have started to fail

Yep everything works as it always has except now when the fob is used the front doors wont open. Lock snippets go up n down, all rods do what they should, just central locking seems to stop the latch working. Its insane!

If they work with the key and not with the FOB, that's odd. Always test with windows down, so you can get inside.

Keep looking...as Dave said, check everything. Maybe the solenoids aren't driving far enough with the FOB.

If I put the windows down I cant get the doors open at all. They need to be up to access the two nuts that hold the door handle on. Electrically t does everything normal and all the rods and actuators work as they should. The problem is once the central locking is used to lock it, then you unlock it, the latchs are going out to lunch until yu remove the door handles again and yank the rod manually. Its mad, it stops the inside handles working too and they werent even touched. Somethng in the latches is saying no. The latches were never touched. It was a straight door handle replacement, same for same.

Have you tried adjusting the rod..I had to do that on mine, although with mine it was key or FOB same issue.

Ok, so heres the deal. When the snippets or keyhole are used to lock or unlock all four doors work perfectly. As soon as the fob is used the back doors remain ok but suddenly the front doors are seized at the latch. Neither exterior or interior handles work. So, that rules out linkages and actuators unless my security system is telling them to shrink when used, then grow when unlocked with the key lol. My next thought is does anyone know if these have a Deadlock feature like a Statesman. IE, you can press lock once and it locks, or twice and it Deadlocks the doors. If so, is there a secret to resetting it because Ive tried resetting the fob....multiple button pressing...shutting the bonnet, all doors, starting the car.....nothing works. I cannot belive replacing some doorhandles would cause two electrical gremlins of the same nature in two different doors 🤔

Try loosening the rod adjustment on the handles so that they have to be pulled out further to open. The problem might be that the electric actuators are travelling past the point achieved by the key and hanging up on the lock mechanism that hasn't fully released. I vaguely recall replacing a RRC handle some years ago and finding that the handle adjustment could not be too tight.

Or the mechanical key turn moves the linkages further than the activation of the solenoids... Do you have a good voltage at the battery?
