First one is a harmonic damper.
Second one is likely either CDL light or High/Low switch.
Ironing out a few things on the recently acquired disco. CDL light wouldn't come on, tracked it down to switch on TC disconnected. Whilst down there, noticed the thing in attached image. Whats that all about? don't have one of those on the defender so its new to me.
Also a plug without a home above the TC, at first thought it was for the cdl light but not so. any idea what it's for?

Ah OK, damper for steering vibrations. Why the steel cable?
It's not cdl, I found the two plug ends for that so could be Hi/low switch. Is that for a dash light to show when in low?
No dash light for high/low can be checked on Nanocom or similar though.
Cable is retention in case it vibrates loose. Don't want a lump of iron bouncing down the road.
Nanocom on a 1994 300tdi? I didn't think they had ECU/odb?
Those wires are likely to be for the transfer case overheat warning. Usually only found on v8 models.
