I think you're right in assuming the vacuum advance isn't what's causing your idle problems, nor was the hose.
I you run on gas a fair bit, it may be worth pulling the plugs and having a look at their condition
Was of to work yesterday morning. Got a bout ten minutes into the commute and it started to lose power. Fine I thought low on gas. Switched to petrol and it still lost power. Pulled over and found it had no idle. Had to keep the revs correct with the accelerator. Got to work this way. Had a look at work and found the vacuum hose for for the distributor advance was broken at the inlet manifold end. Did a quick fix. Had no problems going home, so thought that I had found the problem. Replaced the vacuum line. Of to work today and this time only five minutes into the trip it had the same issue. Switched to petorl again. So I filled it up with gas, then switched over to gas and it ran fine to work and home.

Yeah it could need a service. I have owned it for a bout six months and how long before that it was serviced is a guess.

Air lock in cooling system maybe![]()
I forget what it's called but on the plenum there is an idle air valve. I think that's what it is. Take it off and clean it. This will cause your idle to fluctuate when it sticks.
I just remembered what it's called. The stepper motor 😆😆
Give that man a beer.I just remembered what it's called. The stepper motor 😆😆Did the google thing and you are on the money. Will take to this stepper motor with a blunt instrument, hmm might clean it first and then if it gives me grief it`s the blunt instrument.

Yeah, I've got to buy one myself - mine's cactus too, but I pulled it apart and glued it into a position that lets the car idle sort of ok, sometimes...![]()

Danny, where the I.A.C (stepper motor) screws in if you feel with your hand around the BACK of the engine there is a plate with a nipple on it which a small hose attaches to . Hose is about 5mm thick, they often fall off or perish from heat. This is the I.A.C ( Stepper Motor) vacuum hose. It can effect the non idling. Also check the large hose that comes from the rear of the engine and goes to the throttle body, to make sure it has not cracked and split somewhere, again effected by heat. This hose is very important, you will not get a idle without this sealing.
Cheers,
Mario
