There are olives that clamp the pipes to the pump, maybe yours are warn?
Hi yar,
The aluminium pipes going into the fuel lift pump are loose (spin). Is that right?
I am just about to renew the fuel lines and noticed the above.
With the fuel lines, is the feed and return pipes both 8mm internal dia pipe, and is there a particular type of fuel line I need to buy?
My disco is suffering from a starting problem (long cranking needed after say 4 days sitting) and have now found a small fuel leak thus renewing fuel lines. (Can't tell which pipe is leaking.)
There are olives that clamp the pipes to the pump, maybe yours are warn?
Thanks - so it is not desirable and could introduce a problem?
If it is the aluminium pipe that is directly attached to the lift pump then you will need a new pump.
If it is the union between the plastic pipe and ali pipe then as roverlord suggests a new olive might fix it.

And yes it could cause hard starting as the lift pump will require a few rotations to get the fuel up to the injector pump.
