    tdi transmission

Here's the problem , took the disco (98 tdi) out for a run this arvo . Got about 5ks out , slowed down to turn , pushed the accelerator pedal to continue on after turning and nothing . No drive or reverse , no noise to signify anything wrong. Now , I know there might have been something wrong with transmission since engine swap(only got back going 2 weeks ago) , transmission wasn't changing up gears (holding in low gear )or rapid changes but seemed to improve when engine warmed up . Any thoughts Wayne

You have checked that the transfer lever has not jumped into neutral yes?

Hopefully you engaged the converter into the oil pump drive correctly.

    tdi transmission

Have been driving to and from work and around town so thought was ok . When I bought the car had nothing but problems , done a head within second week of ownership , got fixed then head gasket after only 300k's so seems car has had a real hard time . Also trans fluid was dark and trans dipstick tube was broken half way down . That's without the problems I've had trying to get going since engine swap

That sounds like some bugger has offloaded their problems onto you, not nice

Hopefully it's something as simple as a transfer case gear lever being in neutral, by the sounds of it though it could be a bit more sinister.

Sounds like a new tranny to me . Would like to go the manual gearbox route myself , don't tow with the disco set up as our camping rig anyway either in rooftop or swag . So looks like it will sit in the back yard again for a while longer till funds allow whatever way I go . Wayne

For me this was torque converter splines, apparently not uncommon at 300,000 kms. Doesn't really matter though, unless it's a blocked filter (unlikely), it's gearbox out.
