    What are the wires coming from my temp plug

    I know one of the wires is for the coolant temp on the dash but what is the other one for?

    You will need to tell more specifics about the vehicle - year, TDI, V8 etc.

    don't swap the leads over

    Which temp plug?

    Engine temp (gauge) front rh side of manifold...
    Engine temp (EFI) LHS top of manifold...
    thermo switch in thermostat housing...
    Fuel temp )in fuel rail)...
    Trans temp (if auto) in trans cooler line...

    If you mean the one in the thermostat housing, its a thermo switch to switch the condenser fans on when things get hot, 103-105 deg from memory

    The plug/ sender that is the most likely too be one that you wan`t to change will be the one in the most awkward sod of a position. Speaking from my own personal experience with a 3.9 V8.
