looks as though the belt has walked forward.
Possibly if the balancer was loose the crank cog may have walked forward taking the belt with it.
This was a problem with the 300's.
The later fix was a lipped crank cog and flat face idler and tensioner.
I have heard of it with the 300tdi but not the 200.
What would cause this.?
I bought this engine for a project so thought I would do a belt change as no idea in how many K,s its done.

98% of all Land Rovers built are still on the road.
The other 2% made it home.
Cost difference between Britpart and Genuine seals: £2.04. Knowing that your brakes won't fail at any moment: Priceless.
Crank cog is tight as. Nothing has moved and no wear on the crank.
Straight edge shows no gaps so its got me baffled.
Just fit a new belt and keep an eye on it I guess.
One problem is I cant get one of the IP bolt loose. The 12 point took the corners off so I cut a slot in it. Just bust the impact driver tip.
I will have to grind the head off and remove the cog and see if I can get to it.
Could leave it as is but if I want to get the pump off later I am stuffed so better fix it now while I can.
The 300TDi pump misalignment was rectified by Land Rover by installing a support bracket at the back of the injector pump, never seen a 200TDi, so I don't know if this bracket was retrofitted to them or not, might pay to check, Regards Frank.
I read that they fitted a crank cog with edge flanges to the 300 as well.
I am told it will fit the 200 also.
Split the head of the offending bolt with the dremmel, that enabled me to screw it out.
Put the new belt on and turned it over 10 times and all seems well.
Perhaps the PO did not do it right last time.
I will keep an eye on it.
