We want replace a petrol v8 engine with a smaller diesel in a early model Discovery. Does anyone have any suggestions as to which engine would best suit and where in Brisbane area to obtain recon. engine .

I agree with weeds.
An engine rebuild will cost 2k, short motor only.
Gearbox will need to be changed+3k
Engine ancillaries-rad,a/c,turbo,vacumm pump,alt,engine mounts,p/s+3k.

300 tdi engines to suit rebuild do show up every now and then , anywhere from $100 to $1000.
New head $1000

I know of a 300 tdi/Auto disco rolling body, mostly complete,motor has been taken and reused, box is still there but needs rebuild.
