Blocked or dirty air filter causing more diesel in the air/diesel mix?
Tom.
I have noticed in the last month or so that my EGT are a fair bit higher that usual. This has nothing to do with summer. I used the Disco to move a few items and had roof rack on. Thought was maybe due to wind resistance but with the rack off it hasn't changed.
Usually on sections of the freeway my EGT would get to about 400-450C but now on same sections i can hit close to 550C mark. My disco never went over 500 in the city unless i was trying to.
I noticed today that possibly my boost presdure builds up quicker too. I could be imagining this but the two could be related.
What possible reasons could there be for EGT to get so high? I know obvious one would be intercooler but mine is very clean. I haven't touched the fuel pump. Could a slight leak in the hoses cause this? Power is not down.

blocked muffler(s) ?
sorry to revive this one but still not resolved. I noticed last few weeks on boost it blows a fair bit of smoke. never really noticed so much. I created a thread a while back where i mentioned on start up the motor revs lower and slowly the revs build up over 15 or so seconds to correct idle rpm. well last few months doesnt do that anymore. just stays on lower idle speed and a bit rough until you drive it round a bit. one thing that was originally suggested is that one or more of the valves might be sticking. now this was a brand new head when this problem was first noticed so i was a bit dismissive of that suggestion, but was wondering if the head may have got a hot spot when first running if it could have caused issue with valves. is there a way to see if some of the valves are burnt or not closing properly? could this be an issue that would cause boost to go higher quicker and EGT with it. seems even going downhill my boost goes quite high as if it struggling to pull and needs the turbo to work harder. im 100% sure my egt never used to go that high. wondering whether im slowly causing damage to valve/s and it's why the EGT have slowly got higher and the idle is off at start.

Do you have a boost gauge?
Regards Philip A
yea i have boost gauge. seems to work fine. just that the boost builds up a lot quicker and seems to need more boost than before. doesnt feel down on power but seems the pressure and EGT builds up much easier than it used to
