    Red face Central unlocking woes...

The central locking 'locks' all the doors fine but, when I unlock them, 50% of the time, the two front doors don't unlock properly - it's as if the poppy uppy things pop up and then drop down a little - just enough for it not to be possible to open the doors! Lock and unlock again and I guess the odds decrease a bit and sometimes the door will open. Opening with the key works every time.

Are the poppy uppy things on a spring that's worn or something? Anyone know a fix? Haven't tried WD40 yet...

I bought a Discovery 1 for my son to learn in and it had the same trouble on the passenger door

    So I bought

New 5 x Repair Springs Door Lock Latch Set For Land Rover Discovery MK1 | eBay

I don't know how to these compare to genuine but I was willing to try.

Don't use WD40 on the locks, I sprayed everything with a dry lubricant whilst we had it apart and now the hande works much better.

I found the actuators (linear motors) all died one by one (gears and internals) - so when the second one went, I replaced them all with 2 generic sets (they only come in 4's, but I wanted to replace the tailgate too), with remote control.

What a beauty, first time in my life I've had remote central locking !!!
I bet Sir Prince Phil never had 'em on his.

The rods tend to drop off the end of the actuators sometimes too, so a bit of fiddling and tightening the loop and a clip fixed that. Wiring colours can be a bit different, but they're basically all built the same. Jaycar and most auto shops flog 'em.

Oh, and I think the poppy uppy things are called 'nibs' or 'nubs' (but someone here will know) and I've found they work much better if you change them to tiny little skulls from serious and reputable auto parts dealers ...

Still waiting for my springs as they're coming from Hong Kong. $2.99 with free shipping. A place in Australia wanted $8 with $11 shipping which I considered to be a bit of a ripoff. I do have 'remote' central locking but only from about three feet away. The tailgate only locks once in a blue moon and the drivers door only unlocks aboit every fourth attempt. May as well not have remote central locking at all to be honest!

i guess that I will install my new springs when they arrive and see what journey of adventure that takes me on. If it doesn't get any better then I will go ahead and get some generics. All part of owning a Land Rover I suppose

One other thing you may want to do whilst you have them apart. I had a problem with having to pull the handle twice to be able to open the doors and you can adjust the rods internally to make it feel more engaged.

Whilst replacing the spring this is easy to do.
