300TDi EGT probe position?

All I remember was that this guy had two probes running concurrently, one at the EGR plate, and one after the turbo(but can't recall exactly where after the turbo he had his second probe).
He had graphs with his recorded temps to show about a 200° difference.

Yea I've heard that too. ~200ish C difference from pre turbo manifold to post turbo dump pipe. I would move it to the blanking plate though as 720C is a documented number at that location where as post turbo is a bit of a guess as any number of things can give temperature differences different to the above and take you into the danger zone without you knowing.

Okay, after a few days and a trip to Boonah, Maroon and back via Kalbar i can say the EGT works now!
I dunno what i did, apart from swapping back to the first gauge with new terminals, checking the multi plug
and maybe accidentally bending a connector to looking at where it was joined to the harness feeling the
wrapped joints. After that it started to work, no reading at idle and you have to get a bit of boost
for it to read around 300c and on the run it stayed around 300c to 400c with a spike to nearly 500c
but a quick back off on the throttle bought it down quick. I am going to try the second gauge as again
as it was smoother in its operation

Don't stress about it varying as you drive. Mine is up and down like a whores' drawers on a Friday night. The slightest change in throttle position or road conditions reflects almost instantly. (Mine is a digital gauge, probe in the egr plate).
