What is the first 11 digits of the VIN ?? as I thought the D2 started building in October (ish) 98.
I've just picked up my first LR, a Disco 1 for a bit of camping and 4 wheeling.
I'm trying to work out what ECU I have. It's a Feb 99 build?! but its definitely a Disco 1 (the tail lights being the giveaway). The Wikipedia says it should be a GEMS system but it's got a distributor which I thought only came with 14CUX ECU motor. I know its had a new gearbox fitted 50k ago and wondering if the older ECU meant that it had an engine swap too in its lifetime (there's fresh goop squished out of the manifold gasket).
Any help would be appreciated.

If it is a D1 with a 3.9 it will have the 4CUX. As far as I am aware no aussie Disco had GEMS as the D2 had Thor Motronics. A earlier P38 4.0 or 4.6 could have GEMs - I think.

The GEMS system was fitted to 94 to 98 P38 Range Rovers and used coil packs not a distributor. All Australian D1's were sold with the 14CUX system, no idea if the rest of the world got anything else.
Thank you much appreciated
