    Preventative Maintenance

In preparation for my week off over Christmas and the weekends before I'm looking towards setting some preventative maintenance underway on the disco and before I went crazy on the online shopping I thought I'd check to make sure I'm buying the right quality for the result which I want. I've got a few fun projects underway but I know these ones are a touch more crucial.

    1. Suspension bushings - rubber oem, this kit Land Rover Parts - SUSPENSION BUSH KIT - DISCOVERY 1 (GENUINE/OEM)
my thinking is that in preparation for cape York potentially at some point next year this would be a good measure to take. Poly seems to have potential to transmit vibrations more...
    2. Rear sway bar - swap out links and bushings
    3. Replace all wheel bearings - she's got 290,000km on her and it might be a wise move???
    4. Door seals - starting to show their age
    5. Roof lining - no explanation needed
    6. Repainting the roof -faded, will likely use a metal paint from Bunnings because of full roof rack which will hide the slightly different shade (she's a Niagara grey disco)

These are the jobs I'm looking at so far, ill likely source my parts from the UK due to the quantity of parts, however I will be speaking to the boys at MR automotive on Thursday, although Roverparts have always been great to deal with. I'd love to hear some suggestions of some extra jobs it would be worth doing along the way (it has new springs, shocks, swapped out transmission last month, and all the kit for a long distance tourer so I would love to take some time to do some well earned preventative maintenence). ill be purchasing a press to help with the bushes as it's something I can see being done on our defender too. Ultimately the ride is good however I know if you don't stat on top of these jobs they can turn a daily drive into a nuisance.

Talk to Roverlord before you order your parts. Mario and Heather have a big range of parts, and are great to deal with.

Are the Nolathanes heavy duty, I would even be willing to buy super pro if the consensus is that they ARE the best for ride quality, durability and lack of vibration transmition

Nolathane are HD, and will stiffen up your suspension without making it overly hard ride wise.

There are slight differences between manufacturers. Some make rock hard ones, some make soft ones. Nolathane are prob a bit more $$$ than SuperPro but there is not much in it if you shop around.

Urathane are more $$$ than rubber, but worth it

Personally, over the years, I would not go back to "rubber" bush's. Modern urathane ones are much better.

I just did my Morry ute in Nolathane and it feels so much better than when I did it in rubber and does not transmit bumps and thumps either

And they last longer and take more of a hammering

    +1 on the urethanes.

I did that to my RRC years ago and it transformed the floaty beast massively.
Up until I went the 'plastic bushes' all round I reckon I changed those annoying rear control arm bushes about 5 times.
Maybe 1 pair every year until, I found the modified types that Les Richmond started selling all those years ago. They lasted more than a year, but still wore a couple of them too.

Ride was tighter for sure, but not harsh. I can't remember any undue vibes being transmitted either.

I'm waiting for the day I find one loose bush somewhere on my D1 so I can do the lot in poly myself too.
Currently one of the previous owners has used too stiff suspension bits on my D1 and Polys would make it worse, so I'm looking into more compliant suspension change before I do my bushes anyhow..
maybe close to the end of the year or start of next for me(when time allows for it all).

    We know it's a D1, but 300TDi, 200 TDi or V8?
(maybe place that info in your sig so it doesn't become a question every time you ask for assistance).

Auto or manual(you said trans was done .. T/C... or gearbox proper?)
    Arthur.

All these discos are giving me a heart attack!

    Poly's

Sounds like the polyeurathanes are the solution then, and to the question, auto, 300tdi. Yeah it was a full transfer case and auto transmission swap for another unit which was functioning correctly, not something my wallet wants to happen again I'll add. Drive isn't bad but I'm hearing a bit of squeaking and while I've got the time I think I should get on top of these jobs including all the bushings. From what I've seem they seem to be cheaper overseas, ive seem the super pro kits at places like p***ocks and craddocks and rimmerbros. Would that be the best option potentially?

    SuperPro kit

Here's the part number I believe for the SuperPro kit, I am opting for the castor correction due to a 2" lift, I don't "need" it but if I'm doing the job I might as well do it right I'm thinking.KIT043AADJK
edit: I did just find that no castor correction is about $100 cheaper. Do I actually need it at alL???

Its at around $513 in Aus atm Radius Arm Suspension Bush Kit KIT043AADJK SuperPro | Automotive Superstore
in the U.K. Its avaliable do about £170 without castor correction or £255 plus shipping
Super Pro Bush Kits for Land Rover Discovery 1 - Paddock Spares

At those prices I would source locally, I noticed nolathane is avaliable at repco. Would I be looking at around $500 for a kit from there or significantly more (from those who have them installed) otherwise I shall investigate on saturday. Also I'm not missing anything silly am I, I'm pretty sure that SuperPro kit covers all I need it too. Thanks guys
