A little job just became BIG!

I was just going over the Disco for rego and found a rear parking light in the back bar not working. Being the only fault that I could find, I was very happy! So, I get the digital voltage guage out to check the connection/bulb. All good. Then I started the motor whilst I had the parking lights on, got down under that back bumper to take the bulb out and noticed a constant drip of coolant under the gearboclux. Blast! The welch plug at the back of the block. So much for going fishing over christmas...

So the motor needs to come out. Any tips on removing a 300tdi (manual) from a Disco 1?

I think that whilst it's out, I will do the big ends (which I was planning to do very soon anyway), a new clutch and possibly rear main seal.

Do all the welch plugs.

I once owned a Landy that a previous owner might have had a similar dilemma. Looks like they went away fishing as well as 'fixing' the welsh plug .

Found riveted plate on firewall covering the hole they cut to gain access to back of head for replacing welsh plug insitu !!!

Works for me. Did that in a FIAT 124 Sport to access the bell housing bolts at the top.

X10. If one is gone the rest won't be far behind, unless the others have been done and the back one left because it is too hard. But how do you tell??

Heading down to Eden many years ago in a convoy of RFS trucks. Reached south Nowra where we topped fuel. Water was pouring from blown welch plug in our Studibaker. Everyone was running around in circles as we had to get there. I asked the mechanic could he blow a hole in the firewall with oxy. Ten minutes later a nice 6" square hole was cut and a new welch plug fitted. Firewall was tacked back in and off we went. Reached Eden half an hour after convoy

Hehe my mum owned a fiat 124 sport when i was a kid and lived in Italy. Awesome little car. Still like the look of them.

I've had a few, and intend to get another before I die. The AC model ( single headlight ) is the pick of them.

Fond memories of my high school mate who bought one, turned it to full lock in front of my house, and a lower ball joint failed and dropped one corner of the car onto the ground. Scared him witless and he sold it as soon as it was fixed.

actually now that i've looked at it again. it wasn't a 124 sport she had. it was a 128 coupe'.
