    1994 Discovery 1 v8 wiring diagram.

Hi all, been a long time....
anyhoo i purchased the rave cd from the store here at aulro.com some time ago. I now find myself needing to access the wiring diagram for the old beast only to find the cd seems to not contain said diagram?
The cd i have is marked RAVE CD II. It does contain D2 info and defender info. However it does not have a D1 category.
Am i to assume the defender v8 is the same wiring as the D1?
If not have i acquired the wrong cd?

I need the wiring diagram of the whole car really as im about to remove the dash and strip out all the old wiring and rewire it all neatly.
An after market alarm installed by a non auto elec has turned my already messy wiring loom into a complete puzzle.
And a recent short has turned it into a priority fix.

    Any help/advice appreciated thanks.

    Andrew.

Most of the loom is probably still in good order. Find the smoked wire/s and remove them. Tape up any adjacent scorched wires. Alarms are usually easy to remove as all you need to do is strip back the installer's tape mess until you find matching coloured wires each side of the cut. Any wires just tapped into (such as indicators etc) just need the offending wire trimmed off and taped.

Before recreating an entire harness just find a reasonable one out of a wreck. Not sure why you need a wiring diagram, often all you need is the standard colour of the wire to identify it. Plenty of wire colour charts and wiring diagrams online, here's just one site:

Thanks for that link, that may well go a long way to helping me. Bookmarked.

Its a right mess man. The whole car truth be told. Many owners and each one seemed to have had a go at playing electrician, me included.

Here is a pic to show ya the mess i have before me hahaha. There is more "mess" behind the dash too from other hacking.

    disco-wiring-mess.jpg

My short was the ignition wire, no doubt a result of the immobilizer wiring part of the alarm shorting somewhere.... yet to find exactly where. I was stuck in the bush and went the hack on the loom trying to locate the short. Took me 2 days to get the car running and home
Ripping out a fair amount of the alarm wiring which in turn killed the central locking, got it going and home but now feel i need to treat my car to a bit of love.
The alarm i plan to keep as it works well....... when its not cooking ignition wires
The problem is the alarm was installed poor to say the least. Some wires looped around others and over steering column etc. Just a mess and the alarm unit hangs in mid air.
I have a few loose relays and one fuse block floating also. Many wires not terminated at all.
My intention was to mount the alarm properly behind the dash, shock sensors etc etc and then wire them all in neatly. Soldering all connections and heat shrinking them and finally putting them all in a tidy loom cable tied together.
Rather than trying to reuse the old wiring i was planning to just change out a heap of it one wire at a time and making it tidy enough i would be willing to show it off.

I really want to do this one time and one time only. Properly and tidy. I know its going to cost a few bux in supplies and a bit of time.
This old car has taken me places i never expected it could and has got me home time after time after time. Even when i have trouble it still gets me home.
Thats why i really want to do it properly and once.
    Damn long post sorry.

    Yep its a mess.
Gives me a goal though, to fix this problem once and for all. Clean and tidy and hopefully never have to look at the loom again.

Getting back to the original question to some extend. The Rave disk i purchased.
I noticed there is no RAVE CD II in the store. Only a RAVE CD I ??

Was i given the wrong cd when i purchased? Was it old stock or something? Can i use the disk and go off the defender v8 diagram?

    Discovery 1 Workshop manual

the link may open up as a PDF directly in your browser. If so just save it to your computer or whatever device you're using.
Only problem is with this one, is that it's for the update model(1995 onwards) .. so for sure some things will be different.
But having access to it could still be helpful.

I have a Haynes, and while they aren't as good nor detailed as the RAVE workshop info, they're better than nothing.
And it will have the pre update model specific wiring diagram too.

    Thanks for the links guys.
Bee Uteys link is the best one so far or the closest to what i need rather.

Ultimately i want to be able to find what every wire is for and where it goes. Colors etc.
The above 2 links do not go into that detail at all. Rather just broad info.

My D1 is a 98 build, so there are going to be differences, but my key courtesy light does turn off.
I'm pretty sure that the globe is accessible in a separate small side housing hanging off the lock barrel. I can't remember if I changed mine to an LED(most globes have now been changed).

I did the small black wire mod to stop the annoying sound with the key in the ign and door open, but don't mind the lights on sound.
When I did that key in ign sound mod, I do remember seeing a small silver light sockety thing for this light.

    ...oops! wrong thread

Rave should have a full wiring diagram section and photos of component locations in the electrical section. Trouble is there are lots of doctored versions online
