Body swap or drive line swap

I have damaged 300tdi disco and have found a good body on a chassis that has no engine, gearbox or steering. Is it easier to swap the good body onto my chassis or swap over all the running gear into the other body?

If you have access to a hoist, swap the body over

If using a new chassis it will then be a new car and will have to be registered, inspected rwc and the like.

From a rego point of view...it is better to swap driveline

Chassis swap is a bit more difficult. Can be done, but talk to the "authorities" first so you know what you are up for. They generally dont like chassis swaps.

Chassis swap involves a whole lot more documentation to show that things are not stolen etc...then they have to write the old chassis off as non-repairable write off

If you can show that the numbers are legit, and you do it right, then you CAN do a body and driveline swap...but be warned, it wont be easy

The way I read the OPs thread is that they want to swap the (new)undamaged body onto the old chassis/running gear?

If they swap all the running gear into the new body/chassis combo, it then becomes another car with different chassis No.

Question is, is the rego restricted to the chassis VIN number AND to the body VIN as well, or just the chassis No. ?
Body VIN is riveted on, but the rivets have some special markings .. and it looks as tho the screen has to come out to get at it too.

D1 has a VIN ID plate in the lower left passengers side windscreen.

So in the end, it sounds like the old body and new chassis is what the OP possibly wants to end up scrapping.

The other thing to note is the 94-ish changeover for the update model.
Is the new donor body the same era as the old one? Or later or earlier?

    Generally the chassis

But...some cars only have one VIN, like modern unibody cars....and...ironically my old Morry Ute which is a body on chassis, but has no chasiss number, just a body number

Im in NZ, the rego would just stay with what ever chassis I use. Looks like it will be easier to swap over the running gear into the replacement

If both have the same motor swapping will be easier.
