Just had a bit more of a look around, and found some interesting
third party info re the LT230 drain plug threads.
** back story. A few months ago I bought a Femco Click drain plug for my 300 TDi sump plug. The annoyance of having the oil initially drain onto the track rod and then splash all over the place just got tiresome.
Click drain plug is awesome, and I now drain the old oil directly into an old 10lt drum .. If you have similar issues with oil changes at home .. it is highly recommended.
Main advantage is the reduced possibility to wear out the drain plug threads, or strip bolts .. or whatever.
Anyhow, went back to Femco's website and they have three listings for click drain plugs for the LT230, and the thread size is 3/4" - 14 BSP. All three of these products have a thread depth/length of 12mm which taking into account the 2mm washer used, gives an overall thread depth in the case of about 10mm.
See here for diagrams.
Note, that they were spot on for the 300 TDi's sump plug thread and depth .. so I have no reason to disbelieve their knowledge of the thread type on the LT230.
ps. unless you change the oil regularly on the transfer case, the click drain plug may be an excessive expense, and considering the location could also be exposed to some damage in some situations.
But on the 300 Tdi, the expense is worth every cent/dollar, and postage cost due to the frequency of oil changes and location of the sump plug!
hope that helps.
