Umm, it should be a recessed 1/2" square drive??
Does anyone know what size the drain bolt is for the transfer case on a 2.5 discovery 1?

That’s right.. probably could have worded it better.
It isn’t a 1/2” square drive, the fill for the transfer case is.
On mine it was a 17mm bolt with a copper washer. And the bolt snapped while removing 🤢
I have looked online for a direct replacement but have only found one website that sells it ( part number RND458 on roversnorth.com)
However they don’t ship too Australia..
Anyone know where else to get one ?
Anyone wrecking Deefers, D1 or 2 should have the original plugs available. If all else fails, get onto Mario at Roverlord.

Are you sure it is 17mm? That is a very odd size (non-existent?) and not listed in any of my Catalogues. They have 16 & 18, no 17. I would be inclined to think it is 16 x 1.5 or 18 x 1.5. Remember, commercial fasteners are made undersize so it could be an 18mm. Measure and gauge it again. Have you got a set of inch and metric screw pitch gauges? That it had a copper washer has me thinking it is a Metric Conduit plug and the pitch will be 1.5. Is the transfer an LT230?

Yeah 17mm head..
Most of the bolt is still in the drain hole so I am un able to get a thread pitch gauge on it.
You can buy m12 x 1.5 magnetic drain plugs pretty much everywhere.
Thanks for your help !
Head size is not how you express fasteners. Diameter and pitch should always be used. Head size is meaningless as manufacturers often have non-standard heads. Toyota, honda, Kawasaki use some almost unavailable threads like 9mm & 11mm & 13mm to lock you into their overpriced parts system.
