    Brake Booster

    Hi,

is it worthwhile getting a seal kit for the brake booster. can get a seal kit fairly cheap. a new booster fair bit more. are they easy to re-seal and whack back in?

also, the master cylinder has re-sealing kits (includes all internal seals) but for a little bit more can get a new MC. are these hard to re-seal or am i better off paying the little bit extra and get new one?

reason i am asking is that i'm going to tackle the defender caliper brake upgrade soon but want to make sure other bits up to scratch, otherwise defeats the purpose. i'd say all the seals etc. would be getting quite old so i want to change these or replace whole units and change vacuum lines etc. from the vacuum pump (which i am keeping, still in good order).

the seal kits for booster seem pretty straight forward, just a few bits but was wondering if theres something which makes it a nightmare of a job or if it's just open up change and close.

Re the master cylinders pretty hard to get an O.E one now due to the age of the D1s , from experience aftermarket ones are luck of the draw, some work others fail or won't bleed after installation. So we won't warrant them. Unfortunately due to the age of the D1s now you really don't have a great deal of choice.

I see that you are in Perth. Cannot remember the name now, but a brake specialist shop at Welshpool that used to do sleeves for old cars may be a better option. Stainless steel the things and forget forever. They could also advise about the booster, but they are not difficult to repair.

bearmach is only a part sourcer not a manufacturer, they often source their parts from the same factories as the other part sourcers, but you probably have a better chance with them.

So does that mean if you buy a bearmach brake caliper for example, that is advertised as bearmach, that it could be a britpart but sourced by bearmach?

People have got to stop thinking the certain brands are manufacturers, they do not make the product, they are parts sourcers. Allmakes, Britpart and Bearmach do not manufacturer the parts. They go to manufacturers and buy the parts, they then package them to their own branding. These can be O.E, O.E.M or pattern parts.
Some parts may come from the same part manufacturer, I say some parts not all.

OK but generally, bearmach seem to have fairly good quality parts so they likely source most of their parts from slightly better manufacturers then?

I spoke to the brake place suggested in welshpool. they have shelf units with warranty or said if i want to keep my landrover original part they can get it re-sleeved in 4 hours. i decided to keep my original one and re-sleeve it. same price. $230.

Still some time away though. need to do water pump and coolant flush first. then save up for the brake parts. will take some project management as i need to make sure the car is off the road for as little time as possible.
