If you have spark at the plug then dizzy can be eliminated. Not entirely but enough to move forward. Spark, fuel and compression are the keys.


Could the water some how have shorted something so the fuel injectors dont pulse? Looking to bee utey for answers as he is all knowing in this area......

Do you have any immobilizer or after market alarm that could be playing up???

Yeah it's a strange problem considering I've sunk it a few times and washed the engine bay and never had any dramas. Bit of wd40 and she's right. But this time it's bizzare no pop, fart or bang even with easy start. Gonna put the dissy back in tonight if i can beat the darkness and eliminate the spark and timing.
Next I'll look at the fuel injectors check everything over if it dosnt start.
It has the factory immobilizer but dosnt seem to be playing up. I have a non factory key but never had an issue with it.
I'm tempted to get the spyder bypass just to eliminate that also.

Are you getting full 12 volts from the battery? If the battery is good try running a wire from the +ve post direct to the coil +ve thereby by passing the ignition switch.

I assume you can hear the fuel pump running when you first turn the ignition on?

I've tried a few fully charged batteries but I havnt bypassed the ignition. If I bypass the ignition switch I'm assuming it will just bypass the alarm system? If it fires up what could be the problem then?

I can hear the fuel pump but it was louder before, I could hear it build the pressure up. But I'm guessing the fuel lines are still pressurised because I havnt started it or opend the fuel cap.

When I tried to start it after washing it, it sounded like a fuse popped but they are all good still.

Tommorow is a sunny day so I'll be able to get out and put the dissy back in and try it all over again. Hopefully after a weeks sleep the beast will just awaken....in my dreams haha

Im pretty sure you said you have spark yea? take a plug lead off and do the screwdriver to the block trick. Easy quick test to check spark.
If your plugs are sparking then its not immobilizer or any of that stuff. Even bad timing or wrong leads setup, you should still get the beast to bark a little, sure not run but bark.

Test fuel pressure by depressing the valve on the fuel rail. Fuel should **** out. Normally just after you have hit the ignition and engaged the fuel pump.



I had the same issues as you have, every time i got the disco wet it would either not run or run rough as guts. (by wet i mean river crossings though)
For me it turned out to be wiring. I redone the wiring to coil, dizzy and ignition and thus far have not had that issue come back.


Finally check and DOUBLE check fuses. I know its a simple one but i have had ones that are broken but look good. No obvious break in them but no longer functioning.

Yeah I am getting a good spark 15mm blue, changed coil and module to some Bosch ones I had laying around and changed all the connectors.
Every time I've been through a deep crossing I've only had to give my dissy a light spray but all my leads had splits on the ends. Im getting fuel at least enough for a pop. Put new plugs in cranked it, pulled them out and they are getting fuel on them. I dried them all before putting them back in also. After I get the dissy in I'll go through all the fuses again. And check for fuel pressure and if its good ill see if deflooding it helps. It's been 3 days and no work on it because of the weather and time its doing my head in lol feel so vulnerable in the wife's corolla hahaha

Alright so I put the dissy back in at TDC, blew in the spark plug hole, had compression.
Now I'm not getting any spark from the coil at all even when I bypass the ignition.... checked fuses in engine bay all good. No clue now really stumped.
Checked the valve on the fuel rail I'm getting some fuel but not spraying out constantly.
But I'm more concerned about the spark at the moment.
I tried the old coil and my other coil from falcon. Unless they both just randomly died? But I doubt it.

Did you check the air gap when you did the dizzy?
Its the distance from the pickup to the star thing. The smaller the gap the better.

Yep checked the gap with a pubic hair lol I'm not getting spark from the coil to the dissy at all. I'm thinking about putting the LR ignition module back in and starting over but the Bosch was all working before.

Does the clamp on the coil need to be really tight to earth it? Atm the coil is sitting in the clamp it's tight but I can wiggle it out by hand but it's still earthed really. I had spark before while it was loose.

Check the pickup coil in dissy, had the wires break internally from coil to junction on dissy body. Should be around 3000 Ohms from memory.
