U in Melb? north, south east or west?

I know that CBC bearings will have a kit., It is CBC branded, but I suspect it's a product made by a reputable Co.. Never asked about price tho .. just know they have a kit. Jump on their website and look for the auto products section. Pick from the list of vehicles.
If you're not far from Nth Melb, there's the British Car parts place. I've used them a little bit, brother got me onto them. decent blokes, open Sat.
    Arthur.

All these discos are giving me a heart attack!

I always tighten them far more than specs till they start to bind then back them off 1/4 of a turn.
A quarter turn is much too much.
About 1 flat is the go, after spinning the wheel several times to make sure they are home.

    Regards Philip A

Well I had to settle for Ritter in Burwood, British in nth melb wouldn't answer their phone I'm assuming they are closed. I will never be going to ritter again, $175 for 4 bearings with no seals lock tabs or anything absolute ripoff. I normally pay about $80 a wheel with good quality seals.

Someone that was thinking of selling them a range rover walked out. The guy took it for a spin and was saying it's got a faulty turbo because it was whistling and they would have to lose the cost to repair it. The owner of the car was gobsmacked saying it's always been serviced and looked after by Ritter and they should have been told blah blah blah. He was giving them the run a round so they walked out.
Dunno what other people have experienced there but I wasn't too impressed.
Looks like I got bearings to fix now though
    Cheers

Both wheels done didn't take too long. The races didn't wanna play ball as usual but got there in the end. Driver side was probably just loose but I changed them anyway. I'll clean and repack the old bearing and keep it under my seat for Ron. Used good old castrol HTBG this time. I used nulon extreme last time it's says it's fine for bearings but it looked pretty cooked only after 20k.
Gonna go for a spin should be all sweet nowThe long to do list. My D1 V8

Dont worry It does say 1/4 turn in the book but it did seem a little loose now that I've redone them. I only just uncracked the nut this time.

NO NO!!!! "A quarter turn is much too much."

Its not a literal thing. Well i never thought so. Its a term. You basically need to seat your bearings before you torque them. Thats all this is.
How far you "torque" them before you back them off is really arbitrary so 1/4 a turn or 1 flap or whatever anyone says is just bull****. **** it would depend on how far you packed them with grease before also if you want to get technical. But someone here will argue with that also like the torque bull****!
Its really a feel thing as most things are!

But people want to be CORRECT all the time so im stepping back. I hope your car works out well man. I wont be contributing to the discussion though.

Well it's much MUCH better now, should have jacked the wheels up weeks ago then I might have been able to save the bearings.
Brakes are good again and no noise when turning.
Now I just need to readjust the alignment it's pulling to the right a little now.
Also got to remember to adjust the hand brake while I'm under there.

    Cheers Jim

Agree, its as much a feel thing as anything. 5 people will come up with 5 different methods to end up at the same spot.

Method that works for me, is to tighten nut to reasonably firm, while spinning wheel/hub. Slacken off and tighten up again to JUST feel it starting to take up, while spinning wheel/hub, just taking bearing end float out. I generally monitor hub temps for the 1st 100k or so after doing this, too tight = higher temps.

To go by the book, and your setting bearing end float with a dial gauge.....this can be a PITA.
