    300tdi cylinder head gasket

    Hi,
    New to the forum,
Getting to know my sons old discovery 1 300tdi more than I would like .
Replaced the idler tensioner last month as it was completely shot, didn't know my own strength and pulled the thread out of the block.
I had to helicoil new threads into the aluminium.
This month I have repaired two flat tyres and the exhaust manifold gasket as the engine was making a nice puttering sound, but it looks like its the cylinder head gasket that's gone.
I've tracked the leak to the back of the engine next to the firewall (piston 4) is this a common fault!
I've been youtubing cylinder head gasket replacement and I'm not sure if I'm up to the challenge. How hard is it to replace!
Is there any one in the Moonee ponds area of Melbourne that would be able to supervise me so I don't make a complete Donkey of myself

It's a simple pushrod engine so not particularly hard. However if it's just a coolant leak a dose of stop leak might keep it going. If you decide to replace the gasket, get the head checked for flatness while its off.

Mel, Mr bee utey and Mr loanrangie are correct, it's simple. But, if Dave ( Mr Blknight ) is offering, grab it. The man is a wizard. I wish I lived nearer to him.
