    New camshaft options - 300TDi

    Hey folks,

I am slowly getting around to building another 300TDi for my disco. At the moment i have a shed full of engine parts.
The camshaft i was going to use has a nick/dent on one of the bearing contact surfaces - so i am looking at buying a new camshaft and tappet assemblies (follower, slide etc).

Has anyone ever used a Britpart camshaft and/or tappet assemblies?
I can get a camshaft and tappet assemblies from Turner but they are a lot more expensive... Perhaps the camshafts some out of the same factory anyway!?

    Thanks

There is not a lot of load on the camshaft bearings.
I reckon if you were to linish the journal so there is no bump in it where the dent is, it will be fine.

Alrighty. So a dent is not that bad as it will just hold a little bit more oil...?

Yes that's what I would do. Haven't seen the dent though.

Dunno how much Britpart and or Turners charge .. but a rough guide on a locally sourced cam is about $150-ish for a 300 Tdi.

All these discos are giving me a heart attack!

What's the condition like on them? Have they done a lot of miles?

If you're worried about the roller to cam face .. you can just buy the roller part.
As to whether you 'have' to replace the roller(or follower) .. don't know. I reckon you'd assess each one if you're working to a budget.

I was under the impression that the cam and followers had to be replaced together as they had 'worn into' each other?
But on thinking about it, i think the roller is brass which would take all the wear and the steel cam shaft wouldn't wear?
