    SRS airbags and a bullbar

    Hi

Do you need to get a specific bullbar that's SRS compatible to be able to pass roadworthy?

    Thanks in advance

If you buy a bull bar manufactured to suit your particular vehicle then it will likely include crush cans that go between it and the chassis rail mounts to ensure that the vehicles airbag system is still fully functional with the bull bar fitted. I don’t have a reference for you but this would be a requirement to remain compliant and road worthy.

It's an interesting question. AFAIK airbags were an option on D1s, and not mandatory. So, can the airbag be disabled and still pass RWC? I would have thought so.

I don't think this works if the airbag was standard equipment, as in D2s. However, it's still interesting. Defenders were sold here until 2016 without an airbag to be seen.

Still, twr7cx is correct. Bars were manufactured to support airbags for D1s.

BTW, I don't know what bar you have, but ARB still do the odd production run on crush cans for their D1 bar. I had to buy some a couple of years back.

According to the ARB rep they're made to order only now. He claims that they won't specifically go out of there way to fulfil the order but rather it will sit there until someone orders a complete bar package for that vehicle and which point they will produce a second set of crush cans too.

Thanks everyone. I found a bar, so we will see how it goes with the roadworthy.
