That be cheap chinese stainless i bet.
Due to the door handle being out of adjustment and the previous owner putting excess load on the handle ...it well..eventually cracked and broke. So what does a chronic DIYer do about this? Make one of course, all I needed was some box tube stainless (the rusty type) and something to cut/grind with....2 years later and still working a treat.

Quite possibly, I didn't ask where it was made.
....& would you have given a stuff anyway, provided it worked?![]()
Actually your little Capt. Mainwaring wrinkle reminds me of another LR poorly designed item with a simple solution..
Lower roller for the sliding window mechanism breaks often.
I made up aprox. 1" Square "roller"/slide, out of an old nylon bread board about 1/2" thick. This slides along in the track rather than rolls. Was still working after many years later when I got rid of my D1 early this year.
I can't take credit for this idea as it came from an article on one of the (UK) LR Forums years ago.
Great idea..Ill keep it in mind. Cheers

Thanks SC, I believe I did somewhere. LRM, LRO or another UK publication of the time (??) it could have been. But it wasn't my idea & I recall that the bloke who did post it, included images. The idea made sense to me as a repair & as it transpired it was very reliable as well.![]()
