    RDX Lights

Been needing some rear lights because old ones are a bit tattered so instead of buying two normal ones for a higher cost, i got the RDX LED ones for less. I know that die hard LR enthusiasts might shudder at the thought but just to make you feel better, i kept my old light units and will need to fix them up a bit (metal contacts and broken plastic etc.) and if ever i want to go back i can fit them in again in the future.

the question i wanted to ask though, these new lights have spade terminals instead of plug and whilst i figured where each goes, the one thing i dont know is which spade is the 3W brake and which is the 1W tail light. My multimeter has gone walkabouts so i couldnt test it. anybody know at top of their heads?

Ive added pics. the one with the old indicator unit is the one i mean. the other 3 are of the new light units roughly placed in just to see the look. i need to find a good way to seal them as they sit on a bit different to the original units. i get a feeling they will fade fairly quickly too but can always paint them.

Ok no replies. If i were to get hold of a MM, how would i test which pin is which? If i turn lights on and touch + on pin and - on the body if it’s the park light pin i should get a voltage? Similarly the other pin should get voltage when brake is applied?

I seem to recal that the lights are wired funnily and that it always has a voltage and pressing brake or turning on light just connects it to earth.

If someone can tell me if my procedure above is ok then I’ll try and get a MM and find out.

If it was me i would by a cheap arse test light or make one . with nothing turned on look for positive wire i recon you should fine non. ( I could be wrong it is a land rover) Parker's on find + confirm by turning parker's off. Its then a process of elimination. I hope i am not telling you to suck eggs.

I just fitted rdx to my defender and each wire for each light was colour coded correct simple plug and play

Just do a continuity test using a meter (ohms test works well for this). Take the bulb out and place one test lead on the bulb terminal (brake?) that you wish to check and keep selecting spade input terminal with the other test lead until you get a match.

    Rex lights

According to my Haynes manual, current goes through the relevant switch to the light, then to earth via a black wire for all tail lights. The feed to the stop light should be green with a purple trace, and the tail red with black trace. You could use some scotch locks, short wires and female spade connectors to connect the new lights to the car side of the connector block and easily change the spade ends around to give you brighter brake lights.
Hope this has been some help, and would like to see a pic when they are finally installed.
    Good luck,
    Woolly.
