    Curating a box of spares for my D1 300Tdi - my other one got stolen!

    I had a thread about this a while ago but just for convenience sake I thought I'd fire up a new one...basically I had a great box of spares from buying parts especially to act as a spare to older parts which got replaced with new ones but the old ones were still good enough for a spare in an emergency.

    My car got broken into a while ago and the box of spares got nicked and probably thrown in a bin somewhere (scumbags) so anyway I need to curate a new one which will serve me for weekend trips but also for longer more remote desert stuff.

    Right now I have no spares at all...NOTHING! I remember having things like a few belts, hoses, uni joints, the list went on.

    I just want a good list and then I can hit up Mario and Heather for a bunch of things and whatever they can't get I will find somewhere else.

    I'll start off by saying I know I need a fan spanner, water pump, and p gasket

    What say you?

    Damn! bar-stards!
    Mine once got ransacked(my fault, was unlocked .. but in my driveway!) .. ransacked and only thing of value stolen was my pack of tobacco. Left in car coz it forced me to go to it to have a smoko! .. ie. less smoking, in effect.
    Anyhow, no tools or parts stolen, not even looked at, and even stranger was the $40 odd in coins also not touched .. just the pack of tobacco. Idiots. But the other thing they took was my work backpack on the back seat.
    Nothing of value to anyone other than me: bottle of water, travel cup for coffee, log book, pens, paper .. useless stuff. Did I mention idiots!

    Anyhow, can't help much as to what spares to have for when they're needed. but a couple of things do come to mind.

    * Fuel pump(lift pump).
    * As you want a water pump, add the 3 long bolts in that box too. More than likely the old long bolts will be rusted. If not .. they will! the shorter bolts should be ok tho.
    * fan belt(serpentine)
    * if you don't have hoses, a good alternative to get you out of trouble is some amalgamating tape and duct tape. if you get a burst hose, at least it can hold some coolant to get you back to somewhere. Having a full list of hoses is probably too impractical.
    (Can't remember if you have silicon hose coolant set or not)
    * rear donut(uni joint thing for the rear diff)
    Arthur.

    All these discos are giving me a heart attack!

    D1 Spares

    Hi Young Angus,
    Glad to see another D1 being used to explore our country. I always take a spare wheel bearing and seal kit ( front and back are the same), and the necessary tools to change them; hammer, mild steel drift,hub nut spanner, and grease. Brake fluid is sometimes not available in remote areas,too. Don’t forget spare fuses, especially for any extra wiring that may chafe through and short. And, if you’re going really remote, an extra spare wheel.
    cheers,
    Woolly.
