Yeah, I replied in that thread too, obviously I have a D1.
Love these RCTs compared to the TRWs I pulled out. cut the wear sensor wires(mine is non ABS too), they fit fine, but with a little caveat.
The RCTs don't come with the retaining parts, and they should be renewed.
Fronts use a rod setup with a spring between each pad that slides over the rod.
Rears use the old leaf spring type retaining setup, like in my RRC. More of a pain to refit than the front rod type retaining setup.
So bought the pad retaining(not overly expensive) ordered as per my VIN number. Fronts came in 'wrong' tho, my fronts aren't vented either, but the parts I received were longer than they should have been.
Played and moved and shook them as hard as I could, and seemed safe to use, so used .. easy as.
But the caveat is for the rears. The anti vibration pads on the rear pads(the metal pad that the pistons push on) were just a little out of whack so the feat springs were hard to push on and for me to slide the split pin over them and into place.
The little tabs were just a bit out of whack, so had to tap them into line to make sure they were flush hard over the pad backing. Once done, leaf spring things bent flatter, split pin then slid nicely into it's place .. done!
Not so hard, just took a few minutes to work out why the retainer weren't going in as they should.
In terms of difference. Massive!
Brake pedal is still hard to push(that's more due to vacuum pressure), but the difference is the bite the pads now give for that level of foot pressure.
Drive brothers D2, which has the same pedal/pad feel mine had with the old TRW pads .. I don't mind it(ie. I'm used to it), but then driving home in my D1 a few minutes later, it's amazing how much different they feel.
Still early days, so can't give you any feedback re fade and stuff like that tho .. only that they do give more bite. I also don't tow, so can't offer any feedback there either.
I have no idea what Bendix are like, but those TRW pads were total crap!. The other annoyance with them was that when removing them, they left small pices of some rubbery/plasticky material behind that was hard to remove from the pistons.
Never seen this before, all pads I've done have a metal anti vibration pad on the metal backing of the pad. These TRWs had some rubbery plastic stuff glued, but due to heat and the pistons cup shape, the pistons cut into this plastic material, so each piston had this plastic stuff inside their cups. Not a lot of room to get fingers between disk and piston too .. finally got the crap out, but made a 10 min job more like half an hour.
Arthur.
All these discos are giving me a heart attack!
