yes theres an internal relief valve, they normally stick open.
About to install new Power steering box to 300tdi, as in previous post box went from slight weeping to seal gushing out oil in the space of one day (seal was only 12 mths old). Was wondering is there some kind of pressure valve in the steering pump which may have caused it to increase oil pressure in the system? To avoid repeat on new box.

Thanks, is there any way of checking it?
theres a spec in the book for max pressure.
If it makes pressure its working, if its not the valve is stuck open.
the powersteering goes away when the valve sticks.

Thanks, checked and is making pressure not sure how much do not have guage. Will put back together, hope OK as problem was that it made too much pressure, which seems unlikely, so assume steering box seal/shaft was the problem.
