    Abs relay

    Hi everyone

Abs light has been on a while, 1998 discovery v8 after a lot of tracing I found that the relay to the abs pump is not getting power from the computer, without stating the obvious, is this a computer issue, even when I bridge the relay the abs pump fires up but the abs light does not go off, interestingly, when I got all 4 wheels off the ground recently and ran the car, the abs light went off.

Have you done the blink test to determine if there are any faults?

    Hi Tom
Thanks for that, I have never heard of the blink test, I assume it means the obd port under the rash, I will try it. Thanks

These systems are very basic and general PITA. The pump will only run when the ECU calls for it. The usual problem is a wheel sensor, more often than not a front wheel. The light on indicates a logged fault that needs to be cleared, either with a test book or the blink test. If it is a faulty sensor then the fault light will come back on immediately the car starts to move again. The sensor MAY only needed cleaning and reseating so that it just clears hub.

After chasing mine many times I just removed the lamp from the indicator, but that may not be legal where you are. Also, after the stupid thing very nearly caused an accident by pulsing the brakes without reason, I pulled the pump fuse.

There are many procedures on the internet that may help you: "abs wheel sensor land rover discovery 1"
