    300 Tdi Fuel Lines Which Way

    I have just put another engine(300Tdi) in the old girl. When I took the old one out I failed to note which way round the the fuel lines went on the lift pump.

    Can some one please have a caption cook under the bonnet and let me know which one is which?

    I have trawled rave and my Haynes manual, to no avail.

    IIRC, there may be an arrow on the lift pump(I hope) .. showing direction of flow.
    If you can see this, the outlet(ie. arrow out) side goes to the fuel filter inlet side, so by deduction the other line is from the tank .. ie. inlet to the lift pump.

    If the arrow was 'inwards' then this would be the line from the tank.

    Been many years now, and memory is a bit vague on the exact details of this arrow.

    put your finger on one fitting of the pump and give it a tickle with the lift plunger..

    if it tries to blow air past your finger, thats out, if it tries to suck it in, thats in.


    from there its pretty easy to work out which line on the tank goes where, as one of the lines heads to the filter and from the filter to the injector pump.

    I have also tried that with no success. I suspect the pump might be cactus.

    At this stage I just want to get it running and I will suss out the pump later.

    it could also be that the engine has stopped with the pump on lobe which means you dont get any stroke to prime it with.



    fit a facet electric pump and power it up off of the fuel cut solenoid is my preferred answer (and I carry a spare for justincase)

    When doing a search for original problem I came across a thread about this. Someone suggested that these pumps are not that good for suction and should therefore me fitted closer to the tank.
    Is this correct?
    Where have you mounted yours?
    I assume that you have removed the lift pump and blanked the hole?

    Doing a search I have found these pumps to vary greatly in price and there is a variation in pressures.
    Examples.

    $80 FACET 12V 12 VOLT ELECTRONIC FUEL PUMP. 6-9psi + FITTINGS&FILTER 2 YEAR WARRANTY | eBay

    These basically all look the same. So which one to get?
