Post Radiator Fluid Pouring Out of Tank

So I had a go at using my 96 automatic disco 1 to help pull some piles out of the ground one hot day a few weeks back. I didn't get very far with it and didn't feel like I was pushing it too hard or anything. So, I don't think the temp gauge got to reading hot, but all of a sudden I realized the coolant was just ****ing out. I couldn't precisely tell where it was coming from, but it looked like the bottom of the reservoir tank or a hoses immediately coming off of it. It definitely wasn't coming out of the radiator itself. After it cooled down and I opened the tank, it was completely empty and I couldn't find any indication of a tear or the hose as I was hoping would be the case. I filled her up with water and drove around a bit to see if there would be any indication of a leak somewhere, but I saw nothing. Any ideas where to look or what might cause this? Cheers.

    Tdi?

The coolant tanks have a habit of splitting at the seam when they age.

If it's a black tank it'll more than likely have split (are there any black ones left in the wild?)
The newer/better version has no colour pigment, it's opaque.

would the split only be evident when the line and tank were under pressure again? because i had refilled the tank and done a short drive about with the hope of identifying any potential split but it's been holding water since. It is an original tank btw.

I have a stainless steel replacement tank mine. There are aluminium replacements via ebay They should last longer than a plastic one.
