Bigger alternator than the factory one

    Hi guys,

my sons alternator on his '95 v8 packed up yesterday. Is there a bigger output alternator available? He is running a twin battery split charge, winch, lights etc.

I did try a search but got a really weird result and the links just went back to the main board.

    Thanks for any help.

I recently got a replacement for my Defender 300 TDI. From memory, Bosch 120Amps.

What kind of electrical drain is he running, that he need more than 100A of charging capacity?

100A should be plenty enough for a not so electrically dependent vehicle like a D1 V8.

Standard alternator should be plenty enough to charge twin batteries(in good condition).
How big is the aux battery.
Is it mounted in the passengers side front of engine bay? Should be able to fit a 100Ah battery there(ie. 70ZZ type) with an easy air cleaner mod.
If he has a snorkel fitted, then more than likely air cleaner has already been moved to accommodate a large battery there.

    Hi,

second battery is in the left front ahead off the air cleaner. And from memory it is about 100ah battery.

I think we'll just get a new 100a alternator, might be quicker to get him up and running that way.

thanks for all the input. Cheers

I'm pretty sure this is the one my 3.9V8 has got in it. The tag has MAN822 and 120A which I think is the alternator code and A127IM which is the regulator code. I'm assuming by those part numbers it is a Magnetti Marelli alternator.

The tacho reads 3000rpm at 2100rpm which is apparently taken from the alternator.
    Cheers
