Yeah, I think I did the same as you did.
I had some lengths of fuel hose that fitted(maybe same 6.3mm ID .. can't recall).
Fitted basically a few weeks after I got the car, checked lots of niggly stuff like making sure wastegate was free to move and so forth, and found that small hose length was torn at the fitting too.
Haven't checked if it's still OK, I assume it is as I'm still getting near on 17PSI(at the manifold), so I'd say it's still going.
My 17PSI is regulated by a GFB boost controller box tho, not tweaking the wastegate.
When I changed the hose there was a very slight noticeable increase in boosted power(ie. I got some boost back), but not the audible turbo whine/whistle that most turbos of this era should produce.
The increase in turbo whistle, power and lower EGT came when I had the centre muffler changed to a more free flowing type. I can only assume that the one on there may have been original/blocked or whatever.
Rear muffler was a hotdog style freeflow type, but I didn't like it at all and the drone it made ... so went back and got a more sedate muffler for the rear(much better on cruising).
But EGTs went up on average 50°C with that rear muffler too.
