Suspected Head Gasket leak 300tdi
Hi all, I replaced the head gasket on the 300tdi 4 or 5 weeks or so ago. It has since that time developed a bit of crankcase pressure and is slowly venting a small amount of oil out of the filler cap - might be talking 5 -10 mls in 5 weeks. It is also at times venting a bit of water out of the reserve. This is not apparent with the cap off. I have previously had a blown head gasket and warped head and seen the effects - nothing like that happening now The engine is using perhaps 100 ml of water every 2-3 days. It was not overheated or short of water as I have an electronic temp guage with alarm and a low water alarm.
The engine is still running well with plenty of power and is not using oil. There is no water in the oil.
When I put the head back on, I had some trouble lining the head up with the dowels and I am thinking I may have scraped the gasket a little bit causing damage. I have since prepared some old studs as guides and have a new three hole gasket. Before I take the head off, what are people's thoughts? Other than the normal signs of a leaking/blown gasket is the anything to look for?
Thanks,
Tom
