    OZ888 Disco

    Hi all,
In the interest of sharing and contribution, I hope to soon share a few preliminary photos of our soon to be acquired 1993 Discovery 1 200tdi manual. Aiming for a significant trip next year and open to all advice and suggestions to get ready for the journey. I'm just a hobbyist mechanic at best, but timing belts, suspension & steering, head gaskets, etc are OK to deal with. I have a few jobs lined up already such us lift pump and gearshift bias plate/springs. Hope to share some simple plans as we go, and look forward to the wealth of advice, knowledge and experience, hopefully able to contribute something along the way.
    Cheers,
    Dan

You've picked a good vehicle, they don't come much simpler than a diesel Disco 1.
The 200 can be hard to find components for, thanks to its rarity in Australia. A 300 is an easy and relatively cheap conversion, should it come to that.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

Thanks p38arover I didn't realise... don't want to cause any confusion, can't see where to rename the thread?

Picked up today. Trip home was about 130kms, had a good run, no issues.
Need to address the gearshift bias plate/spring issue at some point.
A few little leaks here and there.
I think swivel hub overhaul is on the recommended to-do list from last service with JC.
    A few more photos

A day off work today, and just enough time between other errands for a quick look into the gearshift issue with change to 4th and stick sitting too far left.
Pulled the centre console, drilled out the rivets, and just as suspected, the tab from the bias plate has sheared right through. Photo attached.
I've just ordered another one, and will have a go at welding this one up as a spare.

Quick update: new bias plate and springs has restored predictable shifting and transformed the driving experience.

Great news. The bias plates all seem to eventually do that. Not a show stopper, but something the factory could have easily prevented with a part upgrade that would probably cost 20c ea.
