    Moving Interstate - Rego?

    Hi all,
Looking to take my Disco over to Sydney with me next year. Will be there long term.

Does anyone know how long I can keep WA rego by using WA address before switching to NSW rego?

If so, will it be fairly easy to get rego on a 98 Disco series 1? Runs well, no damage interior or exterior but obviously older than your average car.

    Thanks

Law says 3 months for licence.
Up to you how long you try the WA address trick.
You will need blue slip for rego in NSW . It depends on who does it. Many mechanics will be quite reasonable on older cars but theoretically there should be no oil leaks!!! which sort of rules out old LRs. You can jet clean it immediately before inspection of course.
Mechanics can be fined lots if they do not have their brake tester calibrated.
from then on pink slips required yearly.
My mechanic was caught and had to actually do the brake test and check for oil leaks , and test headlight alignment but passed my 2002 D2 much to my relief. they do not usually check pollution equipment.
Service NSW are terrific to deal with and I never thought I would say that.

Technically, if your license address changes, so should the vehicle’s registered in your name, think it can be classed as unregistered if the address don’t line up. If your license is NSW, vehicle in your name needs NSW rego.

Have know people living in NSW with qld rego (and mailing address) for years…… tho technically a no-no.

Blue slips are usually ok, if vehicle is in a genuine roadworthy condition (blue slipped a few D1’s without issue)…… some inspection stations are obviously a bit harsher than others tho…..best to ask some people in the local area that have had then done.
