Provided all the leads and wiring are terminated correctly, I can't see how the radio would affect the charging. Make sure no wires were pinched when you replaced the tunnel.
I needed to adjust the gear lever movement on my 200 TDI. So had to remove the tunnel and radio. I never listen to it anyway.
Came time for a test drive, started it up , Tacho went full on then died and red charge light went off but remained with a faint glow. Battery voltage with ammeter showed no charging.
Is my alternator cactus or does removing the radio affect it somehow ?

If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.
I hadnt replaced the tunnel or the radio when I took it for a test drive. Just bolted the gear levers back to make sure it was all OK. It was but no charging.
A mate (not into Land Rovers) thought that the radio in some cars was connected to the charging circuit. Thats why I asked. I dont want to put the radio back, but want it charging.
OK. I plugged the radio back in temporarily. Started the engine , and it started charging again. No need to buy another alternator but proves the charging circuit needs the radio connection.

Seems to me that what it proves is that there have been some "interesting" wiring shenanigans in the past.

It could just be that someone has messed things up so that the vehicle is now using the antenna braid as its earth path to excite things.
Look for a missing connection on the proper radio earth connection going into the loom and its proper earthing point.
