    Persistent pull to the right

Recently purchased and now registered 1998 D1 tdi auto:

    Persistent pull to right.

    Have renewed:
    panhard rod bushes
all trailing and leading arm bushes
    A frame ball joint
Replaced WB DS front as was badly water contaminated.

Had a bent DS trailing arm - straightened.
Mech found a 4mm shorter wheel base on DS - spaced out rear trailing arm to correct
    Toe out checked.
Swivel housing bearings and tensions have been checked by good landy independent who does not think there are issues there

despite the above, the pull to right has barely changed.

Checking hub temperatures with infrared temp gun after a run shows no hub running hotter than any other - so brake binding unlikely?

    Any thoughts?

I'm wondering if I have a bent axle housing?

I'm assuming you've checked tyre pressures
Diff is differentiating freely on both sides.
Steering damper is working properly in both directions.
    Cheers

Yes definitely not tyre pressure related - pressures all the same and have swapped fronts which made no difference.

I haven't checked the steering damper - will do thanks.

I think the DS front shock is on way out but don't think that would cause that effect.

Check all suspension bushes - front and rear. It may be caused by a misaligned axle from one of them being worn.

Yes Thanks, all leading/trailing arm bushes are recently done.

With the front wheels in the straight ahead position, measure rear to front from axle centre to axle centre both sides.

You may find the RHS measures less than the LHS, if that's the case, revisit what JDNSW posted, or look for something bent.

    Hi Edddo,

Super Pro do 2 Radius Arm To Chassis Setback Bush Kits
    # SPF2717K & # SPF2718K

They are meant to correct a pull to the left, they fit the front axle and and either push one side of the axle forward or pull the other side back, I've not seen the fitting instructions.

Could it be that your wheelbase discrepancy should have had the front axle adjusted, not the rear?

I would have thought a 4 wheel alignment would show up a bent axle.

I had Pedders do just that. They found DS was 4mm less than PS. Corrected by spacing out the rear DS trailing arm. Didnt change it.

    Perhaps useful new information.
I noticed today that pulling up a moderate slope in top gear with foot down a bit, that the pull to right seemed to reduce or disappear.
    What might this suggest?

It suggests that there is free play in one of the trailing links to the rear axle, possibly not actual play, but a bush gone soft. Could also be the bracket where one of these is anchored is cracked where it joins the chassis, and is moving under load.
