    Someone's been here before!

    Hello All,

I am new to V8 Discovery vehicles and prior to that I only worked on Series Land Rovers. To me the Discovery 1 is a new-fangled vehicle because it has one of them computer things in it. Having set the scene it is time to ask some questions.

In the case of 'somebody's been here before"- the steering wheel airbag horn module has been taken out. Only the bare structure of the steering wheel is present.

First question: will the car be able to start without the wires connected back and all things related to the driver's airbag fitted as per factory?

At the moment with the battery connected things like the air blowers and all the lights come on. When the ignition key is turned to the start there are some click sound coming from the centre console and nothing more happens.

I would like to get the car running again.

    Photo 1 Bare steering wheel
Photo 2 Goodies on the passenger seat - guts from steering wheel
Photo 3 Wires and connectors where the click noise seems to be coming from when key turned to start in the ignition
Photo 4 the fuse box cover is down. Not sure what has been taken out, disconnected or moved around

    Kind regards
    Lionel

Photo 3 is where the panel for the window switches should be, I suggest you get a copy of the rave manual so you can check the wiring diagrams.

What year model is it Lionel?

That looks like the driver's airbag on the seat.

    Hello Ron,

I will find out the year of manufacture in the morning.

Yes, our observations match, Ron - I am pretty sure that is the driver's airbag sitting on the passenger seat. I do not have a clue as to why the airbag was taken out.

I just want to know whether having no airbag fitted makes it impossible to start the car?

Is there something to do with driver's airbag or is there something normally fitted underneath the airbag that causes an ignition fault? This could explain why the airbag was taken out.

As in - it might be simple enough to refit the airbag only to find out some unknown part is missing and the car will not start anyway.

Is there any difference between a D1 300tdi and a V8 petrol's driver's airbag? I bought a 300tdi years ago just for its engine and I do know that airbag unit is not throwing up and faults and the car did start. I have to check the manufacture details of them both tomorrow.

Ditto - is the window control panel in the centre console the same between the 300tdi and the V8? Because the one in the 300tdi works too.

    Kind regards
    Lionel

    Hi Lionel,

Be very careful when dealing with the airbag, they are explosive powered.

No apologies if I'm telling you how to suck eggs😁
