‘92 Disco 200tdi AC - problems, progress and parts
Hi all,
I have been trying to fix the AC on my Jay series for some time - with the assistance of a local mechanic and AC specialist here in Melbourne.
To date, I have replaced the compressor and filter. If you’re looking for a compressor for a disco 1, this one from AliExpress is a perfect fit and cheap:
AU$195.46 | FOR Sanden 709 Compressor AC SD709 A/C COMPRESSOR Sanden 7402 12 VOLTS 2 GROOVES 124MM PULLEY DIAMETER

The mechanic attempted to regas the system but the pressure immediately went to high when the compressor engaged, indicating a blockage downstream - most likely the TX valve or evaporator according to the mechanic.
So now I have resigned myself to a full dash out job to replace both these parts - and possibly the heater matrix while I’m there!
I have no prior experience with AC or working on Landies at all. My mechanical abilities are moderate - so I am happy to tackle it and save money.
My first challenge is identifying the correct TX valve and evaporator core for the pre facelift disco 1. Be assured, I have spent hours of searching and reading - I don’t believe in asking others to do your homework
My best guesses are the following parts:
Air Conditioning TX Valve Rear suitable for Discovery 1 built up
A-Premium A/C Evaporator Core Compatible with Land Rover Range Rover 1995, Discovery 1994-1998, 3.9L 4.0L 4.2L, Rear Side : Amazon.com.au: Automotive
Can anyone confirm whether or not these are compatible?
Any sage advice on how to go about this job would be gratefully received!
Cheers
