    Zeus gears

I've just purchased a 1997 disco 300tdi. Got it going to discover that it has Zeus timing gears. Goes beautifully but rattles away within the timing cover . Anyone had experience with this ? Contemplating going back to the belt system . Have any of you done this ? Cheers

the zeus gears are very noisy, i nearly bought a 97 defender with them fitted but it had too much cancer sadly

Any idea of how many kilometers on the gears?

Looked at them after purchasing my first D1 Tdi300. Zeus failure(s) and price put me off - although many claimed satisfaction.

Seemed to use existing aluminium bosses (exposed after removing the belt drive system) to support some/all gears from the rear - article photos show shiny aluminium bosses and steel hats that I assume sit over them - boss bears the stress while the hat takes the wear?

Only support gears on one side - probably would have more confidence in a system where gears are supported at the rear by steel, and even better if from both front and rear, all steel.

Cause of improved fuel consumption not clearly resolved.
