    smelly aircon

    Hi,
every time I turn an the aircon you have to hold your breath. It smells like rotten water. The two holes for draining seem to be clean.
In my old car there was a plastic box and water sat there some times and it looked very ugly. So once a year I opened it and cleaned it with pine clean stuff and it was good for another year.
Anything like that with the Disco as well ?

    Matt

You may have a slow leak from the heater core which has been contaminated with dust and leaves sitting in a vent pipe, try to clean out, try hosing out the plenum in front of the windscreen, when it's dry run the engine with the air con on and spray liberal amounts of Glen-20 (anti-bacterial) into the plenum until you can smell the Glen-20 inside the cab, should help, Regards Frank.

you say the drain holes appear to be clean. May I make a suggestion that you climb underneath again this time take a bit of wire to prod into the drain hole. I had your problem once and all appeared clean. Till I probed with a bit of wire and had stagnant water come gushing out all over me. ( so duck for cover) The rubber finger plugs on the outlet pipes fuse together with dirt and mud preventing water escaping, so it builds up. I would also pull your carpet up and check your floor pan near the transmission tunnel, as blocked A/C drains are notorious for rusting out the floor as the Foam sponge underlay hold the moisture.
I ended up removing the rubber fingers from the drain holes and haven't had a problem since
