    Question shot 5th gaer

    I have just purchsed a 92 disco v8 and the manual fifth gear doesnt work. What sort of box is it and is it worth taking out and fixing.Is their a common fault with them

    It is probably an LT77S (reverse up next to first).

    They are a bit renowned for being a weak box, an R380 (later model) is a bolt in replacement.

    Before you go spending $.. take off the center console and the rubber seal and inspect the top of the gearbox. It could be that something is jamming the gearstick. I am reasonably sure the LT77 has bias springs like the R380, and a little piece of metal sometimes breaks off in the R380 and jams the action of the gearstick.
